Objectives  (Curriculum)

The objectives of Production Technology specialization can be summarized as follows:

Graduation of assistant engineers (technicians) to bridge the gap between engineers and the skilled labors. These graduates represent the backbone for industry. 

1.  To provide the graduates with all the necessary technical terms for efficient communication with engineers.

2.   To encourage the attitude for technological research among the graduates, so as to enable them to carry their responsibilities when employed in the industrial sector. 

3.  To qualify the graduates to prepare plans of work for their divisions in industrial firms. 

4.  To qualify the graduates to operate, maintain and develop production facilities. 

5.   To enable the graduates to design and manufacture some of the required spare parts, and also to modify its design when necessary.

Industrial development in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia over recent years has led to the emergence of stressing need for assistant engineers with a high level of technical specialization. Such need emphasizes the requirement of technicians who are responsible and capable of accomplishing tasks that require high skills and specialization in the field of production engineering. Such capabilities are dependent on the technical qualifications and personal character of the required individuals. 

Considering the fact that the industrial structure is a reflection of productive factories, the technicians' role in the field of production technology must be especially emphasized. An increase is also anticipated in investment in the industrial sector.

Major of Production & Refrigeration

Objectives  (Curriculum)

The refrigeration and air conditioning curriculum has been developed in order to prepare “Assistant Engineers" who are able to recognize and analyze malfunctions and failure causes of refrigeration and air conditioning systems as well as carrying out the needed steps to organize the appropriate and professional repair. The graduate should also know how to arrange specifications for different sized Refrigeration and Air Conditioning systems according to specific requirements and to select appropriate components and additional equipment for the system. He can also be assigned for the supervision of the installation of these plants their final acceptance and putting them into operation.

Apart from this practice-oriented and specialized background, the graduates are prepared to have planning competence, knowledge in business management and ability to plan and supervise personnel.

Career Prospects

Graduates are expected to engage in the following fields of activities: 

1. Mounting of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and supervising the work of other staff members on various equipment on site.

2. Putting into service complete systems, detecting and correcting of faults  -due to improper construction or design - or defective functions of certain components.

3. Advising customers and planning of respective systems and their components.

4. Calculation and design of refrigeration and air conditioning systems or pans of it.

5. Estimation of economic efficiency and energy consumption for a refrigeration and air conditioning system at different operating conditions.

6. Inspection and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and their components.

Major of Vehicles

Objectives  (Curriculum)

The present curriculum has been developed for the studies leading to the associate degree in automotive technology from the Colleges of Technology. It has been designed to provide students with the up-to-date knowledge in automotive field, and the technological skills required to be a high level technicians. The program emphasizes on diagnosing adjustment and repair using highly sophisticated electronic and computerized equipment. 

The six semesters study and training in the field of "Automotive Technology" imparts the following qualifications: 

• Application of various test devices for function testing, trouble shooting and adjustment tasks 

• Development of diagnosis strategies 

• Execution of all maintenance, inspection, and adjustment operations in motor vehicles 

• Execution of repair and exchange of motor vehicle components 

• Execution of actual work order, and cost estimates, and safety regulations 

• Management of workshop operations and planning, including material economy and spare parts stock 

• Introduction to office-related electronic data processing.

A vast field of activities is open for the graduate encompassing technical and middle management jobs like: 

• Technicians or head of:

- repair workshop in private sector

- maintenance departments in telecommunications, fire brigades or police

Department FacilitieS

The department is equipped with many workshops equipped, such as, CNC and conventional turning and milling machines; deep drawing, extrusion, destructive testing equipment and refrigeration & air-conditioning facilities. Besides, there is a welding workshop equipped with arc welding, gas welding,   and spot welding equipment. The department houses also a number of laboratories: CNC lab, hydraulic and pneumatic lab, material science lab, measurement lab, refrigeration lab and air-conditioning lab.

Also,  The department is equipped with modern laboratories and workshops utilized in testing and identification of faults in various elements of fuel injection systems, traditional and electronic injection systems, power transmission systems, braking systems and suspension and steering systems.
